Zusammenfassung

Der Zeitgeist bringt moderne Ernährungstrends wie Fast Food, Convenience-Produkte sowie “Snacking” mit sich, da das Zeitbudget für die Zubereitung von Lebensmitteln und Mahlzeiten heutzutage begrenzt ist. Daneben versucht das Lebensmittelmarketing, Packungsgrößen im XXL-Format anzubieten, und verspricht einen preisgünstigen Einkauf. Studien zeigen, dass die Portionsgröße mit der Energiezufuhr assoziiert ist. Die Energiezufuhr spielt wiederum einen entscheidenden Faktor für die Energiebilanz. Eine positive Energiebilanz führt zwangsläufig zu einer Körpergewichtszunahme. Im Sinne der Adipositas-Prävention und -Therapie sind die Begrenzung der Portionsgrößen und des Energiegehaltes von Mahlzeiten sowie mehr Transparenz wünschenswert, damit der Konsument in seinem eigenen Interesse und gut informiert eine Auswahl treffen kann.

Summary

Modern trends in nutrition like fast food, convenience products and snacks are common due to the limited time and willingness for meal preparation. Marketing strategies offer XXL packages at attractive prices: The larger the package the cheaper the price. Several studies have shown that portion size is positively associated with energy intake, which plays an important role for energy balance. A positive energy balance leads to an increase in body weight. For obesity prevention and therapy, more limitation for portion size and energy content of meals and transparency are needed to allow prudent choice by the informed consumer.
