Hintergrund und Epidemiologie

Die Alzheimer-Demenz (AD) ist eine neurodegenerative Erkrankung des höheren Lebensalters. Oxidative Schäden sind mit Alterungsprozessen assoziiert und finden sich bei der Alzheimer-Demenz im Hirngewebe. Durch Freisetzung freier Radikale kann es zu Schädigungen an Proteinen, Lipiden, Mitochondrien und DNA kommen und der Zellzyklus kann aktiviert werden.
