Nach dem 50. Lebensjahr erkranken Frauen häufiger an arthrotischen Erkrankungen als Männer. Dieser Unterschied zeigt sich am deutlichsten bei Arthrosen des Kniegelenks. 2006 kam das erste Kniegelenksimplantat für Frauen auf den Markt. Dennoch steht die Orthopädie erst am Anfang in Sachen Gendermedizin.
