Significance

The authors report a practical protocol for the asymmetric cis-dihydroxylation of electron-deficient alkenes with Oxone catalyzed by a manganese complex bearing a chiral tetra­dentate N4-donor ligand affording the cis-diols in good yields with moderate to high enantioselec­tivity. This transformation has been scaled up to 6.2 mmol.
