Significance

There has been significant synthetic interest in the construction and utility of diazo compounds. A few classes of reactions that employ these reagents include cyclopropanations, C-H insertions, and ylide formations. Although diazo reagents tend to be thermally unstable, metal-catalyzed transformations employing aryldiazo acetates tend to be extremely selective and robust.
