Significance

The combination of metal Lewis acid catalysis and organocatalysis in one reaction is attractive and may allow entirely new reactions to occur. In this report, a bifunctional catalyst that can chelate with the metal and generate enamine at the same time is introduced to a hetero-Diels-Alder reaction. The excellent efficiency and stereoselectivity nicely demonstrated the utility of such a strategy.
