Significance

Described is a one-pot efficient synthesis of pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones 2 via Vilsmeier-Haack reaction of readily available aminopropen­amides 1. This process is proposed to involve a halogenation, formylation, and intramolecular ­nucleophilic cyclization sequence. The reaction scope and limitations were not well investigated.
