Significance

An iron-catalyzed [4+2] benzannulation of internal or terminal alkynes with biaryl or 2-alkenylphenyl Grignard reagents has been disclosed. This new oxidative coupling reaction takes place under mild conditions with iron(III) acetyl­acetonate as the most efficient catalyst.
