Significance
The authors exploit the intrinsic chirality of a sulfur donor atom in their sulfur-MOP ligand to increase the stereocontrol of the catalyst system in their alkylation of indoles. Optically active indoles are common in biologically active compounds, and good yields and enantioselectivities can be achieved for these types of molecules with this methodology.
