Significance

This work discloses a protocol for the trifluoromethylation of aromatic and hetero­aromatic iodides under mild reaction conditions in excellent yield. The trifluoromethyl group is transferred from readily available (S)-(trifluoromethyl)-diphenyl sulfonium salts, whereby elemental copper acts as the reducing agent.
