Significance

In recent years, multicomponent as well as domino reactions have received considerable attention in light of their relevance to atom economy (see Book below). The authors report a multicomponent reaction involving the generation of a rhodium carbenoid and its reaction with aldim-ines under chiral Brønsted acid catalysis. The use of a transition metal as well as an an organocatalyst in situ is significant. This work follows the group’s earlier explorations of domino reactions involving diazo compounds (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2010, 49, 2190).
