Significance
Aza-π-conjugated compounds with boron-nitrogen coordination possess interesting electronic and photophysical properties. The authors describe a facile route to this class of compounds using nitrogen-directed borylation of 2-arylpyridines with Br3B. Dipyridylbenzene (3) could be easily borylated as well, followed by alkyl-ation with trimethylaluminum yielding 5.
