Significance

(-)-Spongidepsin is a polyketide natural product isolated from the Vanuatu marine sponge Spongia sp. It exhibits cytotoxic and anti-proliferative activity against certain cancer cell lines. (-)-Spongidepsin contains a 13-membered cyclodepsipeptide ring, a terminal acetylene, and five stereocenters.
