Significance

Highly functionalized molecules with a trifluoromethylated quaternary stereocenter can be obtained by asymmetric ketone-ene ­reaction of trifluoropyruvate catalyzed by a new Mg(OTf)2 complex of a N,N′-dioxide ligand. A wide range of trifluoromethyl-substituted products were easily accessed with excellent yields and enantio­selectivities.
