Significance

The first general nickel-catalyzed method for C-O activation with aryl- and hetero-aryltrifluoroborates is reported. Various mesylated phenol- and heteroaryl derivatives are used as coupling partners. Ni(cod)2 is the catalyst of choice, other nickel species did not prove to be active in this reaction.
