Significance

The authors described the sequential Suzuki-Miyaura/Heck reactions using a silica-supported palladium catalyst (Pd/SiO2) for the preparation of (E)-stilbenes in one pot. Thus, the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction of iodoarenes 1a-g and potassium vinyltrifluoroborate (2) using Pd/SiO2 and the subsequent Heck reaction with the addition of 3-bromoquinoline (4) were carried out in one pot to give the corresponding stilbenes 5a-g in 44-80% yield.
