Oxidation of Alcohols with TEMPO Immobilized on an Ionic Liquid

Significance

Ionic liquid supported TEMPO 3 was prepared by click reaction of azide 1 and alkyne 2. The supported TEMPO 3 catalyzed the oxidation of alcohols in the presence of bis(acet-oxy)iodobenzene (BAIB) to afford the corresponding carbonyl compounds in up to 99% yield (8 examples). The recyclability of the supported TEMPO was examined for the oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol, where TEMPO 3 was recovered by decantation and reused four times without loss of its catalytic activity (4th reuse: 95% yield).
