Chiral Cyclophanes

Significance

An asymmetric synthesis of chiral cyclophanes is achieved via ortho-lithiation in the presence of catalytic or stoichiometric amounts of a chiral ligand, followed by quenching with an electrophile. Chiral cyclophanes 2 and 3 are obtained this way with good to excellent enantiomeric excess.
