Significance

Sertraline is a leading antidepressant that acts as a selective competitive inhibitor of synaptosomal serotonin uptake. This formal synthesis of sertraline features an enzyme- and ruthenium-catalyzed dynamic kinetic asymmetric transformation (DYKAT) of the racemic 1:1 mixture of cis- and trans-diols A.
