Significance

Dipyrrins 2 are difficult compounds to chemically manipulate. In contrast, the BF2-protected BODIPY analogues 1 are chemically robust and easily purified. The authors propose a strategy whereby 2 can be synthesized through modification of 1 and then finally unveiled through the above reaction.
