Controlled Hydrogenation of ArNO2 Using Carbon-Supported Platinum Colloid

Significance

An efficient and selective catalytic method for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes to arylhydroxylamines using platinum colloid supported on carbon was described. Hydrogenation of various nitroaromatic compounds (9 examples) in the presence of carbon-supported platinum colloid (2 wt%) gave the corresponding N-aryl­hydroxylamines with high conversion and selectivity (up to 100% conversion and 96.5% selectivity).
