Significance

In this report a synthesis of indene and fluorene derivatives using vic-bromo(bromo­methyl)arenes and vic-diborylalkenes was developed. The method utilizes a double palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling and results in good sub-strate scope and high yields. Indene and fluorene derivatives have enjoyed widespread use in polymers and have many materials applications.
