Transfer Hydrogenation of Aldehydes with Au/meso-CeO2

Significance

Gold nanoclusters supported on mesoporous CeO2 (Au/meso-CeO2) catalyzed the transfer hydrogenation of aldehydes 1 with HCOOK at room temperature or 80 ˚C in water to give the corresponding alcohols 2 in 80-99% GC yield (13 examples). The catalyst was recovered by simple filtration and reused four times without significant loss of catalytic performance for the transfer hydrogenation of 1a (4th ­reuse: 94% GC yield).
