Evidenzbasierte Aromatherapie bei Schmerzen

Zusammenfassung

Monoterpene können die Nozizeption, also die Wahrnehmung von Schmerzen im Körper, deutlich herabsetzen und haben so eine beruhigende Wirkung auf das Schmerzgeschehen. Dies macht man sich bei der Aromatherapie zunutze. Dieser sog. Counterirritant-Effekt, ausgelöst durch Monoterpene, wurde bereits in zahlreichen Studien nachgewiesen. Der Beitrag zeigt die breite Studienlage auf und geht auf verschiedene Studien in unterschiedlichen Schmerzarealen und Körperregionen ein.

Abstract

Monoterpenes can significantly reduce nociception, i.e the perception of pain in the body, and thus have a calming effect on the pain process. This is utilized in aromatherapy. This so-called counterirritant effect, triggered by monoterpenes, has already been demonstrated in numerous studies. This article presents the broad study situation and discusses various studies in different pain areas and body regions.
