ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

Postoperative intraabdominelle Infektionen (IAI) stellen eine ebenso wichtige wie heterogene Krankheitsgruppe dar, die durch bakterielle oder fungale Erreger verursacht werden. Es ist komplex, die verschiedenen Entitäten durch klare Definitionen zu differenzieren. Der vorliegende Beitrag versucht, das aktuelle Wissen bezüglich klinischer Symptomatik und mikrobieller Ökologie zusammenzufassen. Ferner wird erläutert, wie entscheidend eine frühzeitige chirurgische oder interventionelle Fokussanierung in Kombination mit einer adäquaten antibakteriellen bzw. antifungalen Therapie für die Prognose der betroffenen Patienten ist.
