Akute psychotische Störungsbilder sind nicht auf organische Ursachen oder Substanzeinfluss zurückzuführen. Sie zeichnen sich durch einen akuten Beginn sowie diverse Symptome aus, die sowohl affektiver als auch produktiv-psychotischer und psychomotorischer Art sein können. Die Beschwerden remittieren meist binnen kurzer Zeit vollständig ohne nennenswerte Residuen, neigen jedoch zu rezidivierenden Verläufen. Auch sind Übergänge in andere Krankheitsbilder möglich.

Acute psychotic disorders (APS) are characterized by an acute onset as well as a wide array of symptoms including affective, psychotic, and psychomotor symptoms. They occur independently of substance use or organic disorders. In most cases, patients recover fully and without residues within a short period of time. However, APS tend to show a relapsing course, and transitions into other psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder) may occur.
