General Procedure for the Preparation of the leuco-FormA solution of dye 4a or 4b in EtOH (10.0 μmol, ca. 0.01 mol L–1) was treated with a suspension of sodium borohydride in EtOH (ca. 0.2 mol L–1) until the intense red color faded. The solution was concentrated in vacuo, extracted with Et2O (3 x 10 mL) and washed with water (20 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give the leuco-form 5a and 5b, respectively: Guin J. Besnard C. Lacour J.
