In contrast to DABCO, quinuclidine, or triethylammonium salts the herein used trimethylammonium salts cannot undergo Hofmann elimination reactions. A possible side reaction that sometimes occurs with all these ylides is the Stevens rearrangement: Maeda Y, Sato Y.
