The present issue is totally dedicated for the Abstracts of the Free Communications
of the Eighth Clinical Congress (Virtual) of the Gulf Chapter of the American Association
of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE); November 5–7, 2020.[[1]]
This clinical congress was held virtually under the circumstances of the COVID-19.
This is also the last clinical congress to be held under the umbrella of the Gulf
Chapter of the AACE. The AACE leadership has recently passed a resolution to abandon
all chapters (Domestic and International) including our own Gulf Chapter. However,
due to the late communication of the decision and due to all extensive logistical
efforts put in the program, the AACE headquarters have allowed proceeding with the
congress under the same name of the chapter.
The abstracts covered a wide range of studies describing the various aspects of clinical
practice and research. Several trials in diabetes were reported. Many observational
studies were reported for the first time here. Many cases were reported reflecting
unique, rare or special aspects of clinical care. These included some experiences
with COVID19-related reactions. We do hope that these abstracts mature in full manuscripts.
We do hope that the publication of the abstracts in our Journal puts on record as
early as possible, some of local, regional, and international work on clinical practice
and disease in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism that was considered relevant
to our community and region.
