Introduction

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the Western world. Detection of CRC at an early stage improves the prognosis considerably. Furthermore, adenomas are the benign precursors of CRC, and removal of adenomas results in a lower than expected incidence of CRC. For these reasons, the detection and identification of colonic neoplasms was an important topic during the 2008 Digestive Disease Week (DDW).
