Introduction

Upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding remains a potentially serious and frequent challenge, with mortality around 5 % – 10 %. The large number of abstracts devoted to this subject reflects the persistent interest in one of the most important emergencies in gastroenterology and hepatology. This necessarily subjective selection has included the most significant data, but a lot of abstracts listed only in the second part of the reference list are very interesting. Some abstracts that are likely to be included in other DDW Highlights reviews (e. g., capsule endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, enteroscopy) have not been described.
