Emotionen, Emotionsregulation und Emotionsregulationsstrategien

  • Emotionen bestehen aus mehreren Komponenten und sind dadurch charakterisiert, dass sie von episodischer Natur und auf bestimmte Reize bezogen sind.

  • Die Fähigkeit des Menschen, aktiv Einfluss auf seine Emotionen und Handlungsbereitschaften nehmen zu können, wird als Emotionsregulation bezeichnet.

  • Aktuelle Forschung im Bereich der Emotionsregulation nutzt sowohl Verhaltensstudien als auch bildgebende Verfahren, um aufzudecken, wann, wie und mit welchen Konsequenzen Individuen ihre Emotionen regulieren können. Bisherige Studien haben sich vor allem mit Strategien zur Aufmerksamkeitsmodifikation (z. B. Ablenken) und der kognitiven Bearbeitung (z. B. Reappraisal) beschäftigt.

Neuroanatomie und Neurobiologie

  • Die neuralen Korrelate der menschlichen Kompetenz zur Emotionsregulation sind nach bisherigen Befunden in einem weitreichenden Netzwerk aus subkortikalen und kortikalen Arealen angesiedelt. Generell wird vermutet, dass es mehrere sich überschneidende, aber auch distinkte Netzwerke für unterschiedliche Strategien gibt.

  • Die exakte Funktion der Amygdala im neuralen Schaltkreis der Emotionsregulation ist nach wie vor unklar, vor allem wird dieser Struktur aber eine bedeutende Rolle bei der Emotionsverarbeitung – Information via subkortikaler und kortikaler Route – sowie bei der Emotionsgenerierung zugesprochen.

  • Die Regulation von Aufmerksamkeit und emotionalen Zuständen dürfte eher dorsalen präfrontalen Arealen zufallen, während ventrale präfrontale Areale für die Regulation autonomer Reaktionen zuständig sind.

  • Der anteriore zinguläre Kortex scheint vor allem für die Regulierung von Erregungszuständen, die mit emotionalen Empfindungen einhergehen, wichtig.
