Translationale Forschung beim Mammakarzinom – Workshop zur Erarbeitung neuer Forschungsideen im Rahmen des Biedenkopf Symposiums XIII der Banss-Stiftung

Zusammenfassung

Die translationale Forschung als Bindeglied zwischen Grundlagenforschung und klinischer Forschung strebt den Transfer von Erkenntnissen aus Labor und Klinik in neue Therapiekonzepte an. Die Standards für die Biomaterialsammlung sind etabliert und die stetige Entwicklung entsprechender Technologien steht als Grundstein für die translationale Forschung zur Verfügung. Um die Forschung im translationalen Bereich voranzutreiben, sind darüber hinaus aber neue Denkansätze erforderlich. Vom 13. – 15. September 2007 trafen sich auf Einladung der gemeinnützigen Banss-Stiftung daher führende Kliniker und Grundlagenwissenschaftler deutscher Universitätskliniken und Forschungseinrichtungen in Biedenkopf. Im Vordergrund des Symposiums stand die Erarbeitung neuer Forschungsideen unter Verwendung von Aspekten und Fähigkeiten des Innovationsmanagements. Als Einführung in die Thematik wurden neben generellen Therapiekonzepten beim Mammakarzinom (Prof. C. Thomssen) auch aktuelle Studien (Prof. G. von Minckwitz) zum Thema präsentiert und die translationale Forschung aus der Sicht der Klinik (Prof. N. Harbeck) und aus Sicht des Labors (Dr. D. Niederacher) vorgestellt. In einem Vortrag über den derzeitigen Forschungsstand wurde die Frage „Was wir wissen und was wir wirklich wissen sollten“ (Prof. B. Groner) erörtert. Unter Anleitung haben die Teilnehmer in einem Kreativworkshop zentrale Aspekte der translationalen Forschung aufgegriffen und potenzielle neue Ansätze definiert, die in diesem Artikel zusammengefasst sind.

Abstract

Translational Research in oncology links experimental and clinical science with the aim of transferring knowledge from research laboratories and hospitals and translating it into new therapy concepts. The definition of standards for the collection of biomaterials and the continued development of technologies are preconditions for Translational Research. Nevertheless new approaches are required to advance Translational Research. Following the invitation of the Banss Foundation, in September 2007 leading clinicians and scientists from German university hospitals and research facilities met together in Biedenkopf, near Marburg. The symposium aimed to develop new scientific concepts using aspects and features of innovation management. The topic was introduced by presenting general therapy concepts in breast cancer treatment (Prof. C. Thomssen) as well as current clinical breast cancer trials (Prof. G. von Minckwitz). Translational Research was described from a clinical point of view (Prof. N. Harbeck) and from the point of view of the laboratory (Dr. D. Niederacher). The question “what we know and what we really should know” (Prof. B. Groner) was discussed during a presentation on the current state of knowledge in cancer research. This article summarizes the results of the discussion on central aspects of Translational Research in this workshop and offers new approaches.
