Summary
Some evidence from two small randomized controlled trials indicates that medial and lateral (crossed) pinning and lateral pinning for fixation of supracondylar fractures in children may be comparable with regard to mean Baumann angle changes, carrying angle loss, risk of poor outcome, iatrogenic nerve injury, and infection. Additional methodologically rigorous comparative studies with larger sample sizes are necessary to establish the long term safety and efficacy of these two operative treatments.
