The ESGE is happy to announce the
following meetings which will take place under ESGE auspices.
Cairo, Egypt
December 8 - 10, 2007
9th International Workshop on
Therapeutic Endoscopy
Director: Dr. Ibrahim Mostafa
Endoscopic ultrasound scanning (EUS) has become an integrated part of modern gastrointestinal
endoscopy. EUS guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (EUS-FNA) is at present performed
on a routine basis in many endoscopic centres and it is evident that this procedure
has a major impact on the therapeutic management of the patients by obtaining
a tissue diagnosis from lesions outlined by endosonography. However, the interpretation
of linear EUS images need to be learned, and the EUS guided procedures are difficult
to master before the procedures can be integrated into clinical practice.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
December 17 - 18, 2007
Amsterdam Live Endoscopy
Director: Dr. Paul Fockens
This new annual event presenting live demonstration, lectures, and break-out sessions
will take place in the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam with Paul Fockens as Course Director.

10. International Symposium:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy
Director: Dr. Horst Neuhaus
The objectives of the symposium are to expand your knowledge of:
evidence-based approach to diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, new endoscopic techniques with an assessment of their clinical utility and cost-effectiveness, increasing trends towards blurring the lines between gastroenterology and surgery, the optimal endoscopic method for individual cases, the choice and application of endoscopic instruments and accessories, appropriate management of failed interventions and complications.
Mix of live-demonstrations, mini-
symposia, state of the art lectures
and discussions
International experts will perform live procedures on both days of the congress.
These presentations of established and novel methods, instruments and tricks from
different centres will be transmitted in HDTV quality to the auditorium from the
endoscopy unit of the Evangelisches Krankenhaus. Together with expert moderators
you will be able to interact with the endoscopy team. Mini-symposia and state
of the art lectures will complement these sessions, the topics for which were
selected after consideration of recent requests of participants and current advances
in endoscopy and related minimally invasive techniques.

EURO-NOTES 2007, Gothenburg,
September 20 - 22, 2007
Karl-Herman Fuchs (EAES) and Paul Fockens (ESGE), key organisers of EURO-NOTES 2007
EURO-NOTES 2007 was the first joint meeting of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) on Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES). Gastroenterologists and surgeons from throughout Europe and beyond, together with participants from the biomedical industry, met to discuss and debate the challenges and obstacles of implementing Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery into clinical practice.
On the first day key speakers, both surgeons and gastroenterologists, held lectures
on specific topics in an attempt to identify the needs, hurdles and necessary
research steps for NOTES. The following breakout sessions were aimed at pinpointing
problem areas and considering possible approaches to overcome obstacles. The results
of these sessions which were presented on the next morning can be viewed at
