Zusammenfassung
Hospizarbeit ist weltweit aus der Initiative und dem Engagement von Ehrenamtlichen
entstanden. Mit der Etablierung von Hospizen veränderte sich aber auch die Rolle
der Freiwilligen Helferinnen und Helfer. Sie werden zunehmend zu Spezialistinnen
und Spezialisten in einem Team von haupt- und ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeiterinnen
und Mitarbeitern und sind damit ebenso wichtig wie Pflegekräfte, Ärzte, Sozialarbeiter
und Seelsorger. Trotz der notwendigen und zunehmenden Professionalisierung dieser
Tätigkeit gilt nach wie vor, dass die Hospizbewegung ihre Existenz dem Geist der
Ehrenamtlichkeit verdankt.
Summary
Hospice work originated out of the initiative and commitment of honorary workers.
The establishment of hospices is, however, accompanied by changes in the role
played by volunteer workers. Hospice workers are increasingly assuming the role
of specialists in a team of honorary and fulltime employees and are therefore
as indispensable as health care personnel like nurses, doctors, social workers
and pastors. In spite of the necessity and increasing professionalisation of hospice
tasks, the movement still owes its existence to voluntarism.
