Starting to write this in early November seems to bring Christmas to mind almost before
the television adverts have started. It hardly seems more than a few days since Euroson
in Geneva where the scientific programme was excellent, the weather matched it and
a great time was had by all.
As well as the science there were important changes to the Officers of EFSUMB. Kurt
Jaeger finished a very successful term as President to be succeeded by David Evans.
Similarly Niels Juul stood down after six years as Treasurer during which period the
Federation has steadily become more healthy financially. He is replaced by Pietro
Pavlica. David Lindsell has also become the Chairman of the Educational and Professional
Standards Committee.
It was good to see such enthusiasm for membership of that committee and for the Publications
Committee such that elections were necessary for both. Congratulations to the successful
and I hope those not successful this time will put their names forward next time.
It was very disappointing to have a very small turn out for the general Assembly.
Extremely important changes were made the most important of which was a reduction
in terms of Office from three to two years.
The next edition of the Newsletter is the large one which goes to all members of the
Federation in paper form. This will have an updated look to it and as well as reports
from Geneva will contain the Training document we have anticipated for some time.
I would be interested to hear from any eagle eyed member who noticed that the Newsletter
section on the website had a different appearance in the last edition. There are no
prizes for spotting the difference but no one has pointed it out to me yet!
I hope you have a very enjoyable Christmas - BMUS again comes between now and then.
Spare a thought for Gianna and me working away on the next edition whilst the rest
of you are enjoying yourselves over the festive season.

N,B, it should be noted that there was an error of omission in identifying Dr György
Harmat being the author of "A Personal Paediatric Radiology Commentary on ’Review
of the Complications of Interventional Ultrasound in the Abdomen ? Safety First’ "
published in the EFSUMB Newsletter issue 4 August 2005. The Editor apologises for
this oversight.
