Giornale Italiano di Ecografia has been the official journal of the Italian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology since 1983. The journal is published 4 times a year and has a circulation of about 2000. It is intended mainly for radiologists, specialists in internal medicine, gynaecologists, surgeons, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists and general physicians. The journal acts as a medium for the exchange of information on the use of ultrasound in medicine and biology addressing all aspects of this field including cross sectional imaging of different pathologies. It publishes original contributions (major papers, review articles, pictorial essays, case reports, technical reports, and letters to the Editor). Manuscripts can be submitted in English or in Italian with abstract in English. In 2004 it underwent a thorough modernization in order to comply with international requirements. The journal has a national and international board of reviewers, who review the submitted papers and control the quality of the images, the ethical aspect of the research and the quality of the final product. Manuscripts are reviewed by at least 2 reviewers. With this revision on-line submission is now possible. Detailed instruction for Authors are available on the website, www.siumb.it.
