Abstract

Half of all health economic studies in haematology and oncology have been performed below evidence level IIIb according to the classification of the Oxford centre for Evidence Based Medicine. That means, they have the same evidence for health economy as description of case-series or statements of opinion leaders in a clinical setting. Furthermore, there is a publication and sponsorship bias. Cost evaluation shows more positive than negative results. The probability that industry sponsored studies reveal positive results is higher than in studies sponsored by non-profit organisations.
