Abstract

Romania wants to become an EU-Member-State in 2007. For this purpose extensive transformations of the health and social policy are necessary. In particular the Romanian psychiatry has a long way to go to Europe. After an analysis of the historical development and the current situation of the Romanian psychiatry we want to show exemplarily how it could be possible to improve the psychiatric care with the help of foreign NGO's and how to support Romania on its way to Europe.
