ABSTRACT

The tumescent technique for local anesthesia by direct infiltration of large volumes of dilute anesthetic solution has popularized liposuction worldwide. This significant innovation has allowed surgeons to remove large volumes of fat safely without general anesthesia and without significant blood loss. Over the past 7 years, we have used true tumescent technique on 841 patients with minimal complications. The overwhelming majority of the procedures were performed with mild sedation. As the procedure evolved, we have modified our technique and are confident in its safety and efficacy.
