As President of the Libyan International Medical University (LIMU), I am pleased to introduce the Libyan International Medical University Journal (LIMUJ)—a platform dedicated to advancing medical research through global collaboration. We welcome submissions from researchers worldwide and invite you to join us in shaping the future of health care knowledge.

A Journal with Purpose

LIMU is not a traditional institution. Our mission is twofold: to deliver innovative, active learning, problem-based medical education and to foster a robust research culture at all academic levels. Since its beginning in 2016, LIMUJ has served as a cornerstone of this vision, providing a platform to amplify medical research from Libya and beyond while promoting global academic exchange.

A Journal on the Rise: Directory of Open Access Journals Indexing and Beyond

We are proud to announce that LIMUJ has been re-indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)—a significant milestone in our journey toward broader international recognition. This achievement reflects our commitment to maintaining high editorial standards, rigorous peer review, and open-access principles. While we celebrate this step, we continue striving for inclusion in additional indexing databases to expand the reach and impact of the research we publish.

Global Voices, Local Relevance

This special issue of LIMUJ exemplifies our journal's diversity and academic rigor, featuring contributions from esteemed researchers across Libya, India, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates. Among the notable works:

  • Global Perspectives on Pressing Issues: Beshyah's thought-provoking analysis of predatory publishing challenges us to create more equitable academic spaces,[1] while his comprehensive review of Ramadan fasting's health effects provides valuable insights for clinicians worldwide.[2]

  • Clinical Excellence: The thorough review by Elhwuegi and Elfakhri on statin therapy exemplifies our commitment to publishing research that directly informs and improves clinical practice, particularly in the area of cardiovascular risk management.[3]

  • Public Health Leadership: Our groundbreaking study on childhood obesity in Benghazi (revealing a startling 28% prevalence) provides crucial data to guide regional health policies and interventions.[4]

  • Diagnostic Advancement: The reported case of penile amelanotic melanoma, the first from India, highlights the importance of maintaining high clinical suspicion for rare presentations.[5]

  • Evolution of Medical Knowledge: Gargoum's comprehensive review of constrictive pericarditis beautifully illustrates how medical understanding evolves over time, from historical tuberculosis associations to modern iatrogenic causes.[6]

At LIMUJ, we have implemented a rigorous peer-review process that evaluates manuscripts based solely on their scientific merit, methodological soundness, and potential impact. Our editorial board, comprising experts from various medical specialties and geographical regions, ensures this standard is maintained while providing constructive feedback to authors.

We Particularly Encourage Submissions That

  • Address pressing health challenges in North Africa and the Middle East

  • Offer innovative solutions applicable to resource-limited settings

  • Bridge gaps between basic science and clinical practice

  • Present rare cases with important learning points

To potential authors, we offer:

  • ✓ Free submission and publication

  • ✓ Rapid yet thorough peer review

  • ✓ International visibility through our growing indexing

  • ✓ Opportunities for early-career researchers

To our readers, we promise:

  • ✔ Clinically relevant, evidence-based content

  • ✔ Diverse perspectives from global experts

  • ✔ Open access to all published materials

As we look to the future, LIMUJ will continue to serve as a platform where quality research meets real-world impact. We invite you to join us in this mission—whether as contributing authors, peer reviewers, or engaged readers. Together, we can advance medical science while making it truly inclusive and accessible.
