Welcome to the second issue. We have compiled several articles of different types: an editorial, three original articles, two case reports, and a conference abstract book. The editorial touches on the Impact of variations in names on scholarly publishing and bibliographic work. This problem may have global implications for all countries with a non-Latin alphabet. Still, the author took an Arabic and Middle Eastern perspective, addressing most of the Journal's readership. The three original articles covered a wide scope. The first reported 4-year review of occupational injuries among health care workers in a tertiary care hospital in Saudi Arabia was by Mozzam Zaid and colleagues. The second examined the association of plasma calprotectin levels with disease severity in coronavirus disease 2019 patients by Suat Sincan et al from Turkiye. The third evaluated the association between CYP2A13 polymorphisms and lung cancer risk by a systematic review and meta-analysis of case–control studies by Fui-Ling Voon et al.

Shafi and Kahwash illustrate a case of subcutaneous fat necrosis in a newborn in the pathology corner. The second case report demonstrated a rare occurrence of pituitary hyperplasia secondary to prolonged undiagnosed hypothyroidism in a 13-year-old female by Abdul Khaleq and Mansour from Basrah, Iraq.

Finally, we are happy to publish the abstracts of the 10th Libyan Cardiac Society Congress, October 10–13, 2024, in Misrata, Libya, edited by Ali Elneihoum et al. The Journal will continue to support academic activities in the region.

The Journal is already included on the Web of Science and Google Scholar. Not all journals are indexed in Scopus and PubMed. Therefore, most researchers who wish to search beyond PubMed and Scopus will readily detect its contents. Despite all the difficulties, we are still working with the publisher to index the Journal in the popular database that our readers and authors want. We are also aware of the highly competitive market for indexing applications. However, much more important is that we will maintain our high scholarly publishing standards, as this is the right thing to do, and it is the only way to increase recognition and a chance for indexation. In the interim, we rely on the support of authors who trust us.
