EVALUATION OF THE ONCOLOGICAL OUTCOME OF PATIENTS WITH DISTAL RECTAL ADENOCARCINOMA UNDERGOING MANUAL COLOANAL ANASTOMOSIS FROM 2015 TO 2020
This study investigates the effectiveness of manual coloanal anastomosis in patients diagnosed with distal rectal adenocarcinoma, with the main objective of evaluating overall survival, disease-free survival, and postoperative complications. This retrospective study analyzed 37 patients who underwent rectosigmoidectomy with total mesorectal excision followed by manual coloanal anastomosis, between January 2015 and December 2020, at the Hospital de Amor Barretos/SP. The results indicate that, although this anastomosis presents technical challenges, when performed correctly and applied to appropriately selected patients, it can result in favorable oncological outcomes, comparable to or even surpassing current literature, while minimizing postoperative complications. It is concluded that manual coloanal anastomosis is a feasible and safe approach in properly selected patients with distal rectal adenocarcinoma, but further studies are emphasized to confirm these findings and optimize patient selection and surgical techniques.
