Floating Island Method for the Prevention of the Lateral Sinus Thrombosis in the Combined Transpetrosal Approach for Petroclival Meningioma
Lateral sinus thrombosis is one of the well-known complications after skull base surgery. Herein, the authors present a surgical movie of a right petroclival meningioma with the ipsilateral-dominant lateral sinus to describe the technique “floating island method” of avoiding lateral sinus thrombosis. Careful drilling to leave a thin bony segment covering the lateral sinus will prevent the desiccation by exposure and collapse of the lateral sinus due to retraction.
