Lower Limb Ischemic Neuropathy Following Uterine Artery Embolization
Authors
Case Presentation: A 39-year-old women referred to our center with heavy menstrual bleeding for past 2 years. MRI revealed multiple intramural fibroids. Planned for uterine artery embolization (UAE) which done bilaterally using particles. By the end of the procedure she started to have left gluteal and leg pain which is worsening shortly. Neurological examination showed pain and numbness all over the LT leg with left foot deviated medially, impaired sensation and diminished motor power. Pelvi-abdominal CT and MRI spine showed bulky edematous left gluteus muscles with multiple hypo densities likely related to ischemic changes. No evidence cord compression. No sonographic evidence of arterial occlusion or DVT. Over the following days the patient has been managed under care of neurology for possible nerve injury 2ry to gluteal edema, or sciatic nerve ischemic neuropathy. Patient discharged on postoperative day 7 in stable general condition on narcotic pain control with close outpatient follow-up. (max 150 words)
