Oscar V. Hernández Mondragón et al. Long-term quality of life after peroral endoscopic
myotomy remains compromised in patients with achalasia type III
This prospective cohort study demonstrates that peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM)
achieves significant long-term relief of dysphagia in patients with achalasia. Although
dysphagia improvement was maintained, both integrated relaxation pressure and quality
of life outcomes deteriorated over time, particularly in male patients with type 3
achalasia.
