Multicenter randomized controlled trial comparing narrow-band imaging (NBI) and high definition white light (HDWL) endoscopy in the optical diagnosis of small (< 10 mm) neoplastic vs. non-neoplastic colorectal polyps. No significant differences were found in diagnostic accuracy (73.7 % and 79.2 %, respectively), although the proportion of polyps assessed with high confidence was significantly lower with NBI than with HDWL (73.7 % and 82.6 %, respectively). As the quality of optical diagnoses differed significantly between the participating centers, it remains to be established whether the optical diagnosis method can be applied in a routine clinical setting.
