Die Eviszeration eines Auges mit anschließender Implantation einer intraskleralen Silikonprothese stellt eine Alternative zur Enukleation dar. Durchgeführt werden kann die Eviszeration bei intaktem, nicht infiziertem Bulbus bei Bestehen eines Glaukoms unter der Voraussetzung, dass eine ausreichende Tränenproduktion gewährleistet ist und kein tumoröses Geschehen vorliegt. Das Wohlbefinden eines Tieres mit einem blinden und schmerzhaften Auge kann durch diesen chirurgischen Eingriff entscheidend verbessert werden. Das kosmetische Ergebnis ist im Vergleich zur Enukleation für viele Tierbesitzer ansprechender.
