Brigid Dwyer, MD, and Douglas I. Katz, MD

The Guest Editors of this issue of Seminars in Neurology are Drs. Brigid Dwyer and Douglas I. Katz.

Dr. Dwyer is Assistant Professor of Neurology at Boston University (BU) School of Medicine. She received her BS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and her MD from the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. She did her internship in Internal Medicine, as well as her residency in Neurology, at BU. This was followed by a clinical and research fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine and Neurorehabilitation sponsored by the BU School of Medicine and the Boston Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. She joined BU's faculty in 2017, where she has served admirably. She is currently Director of the Vascular Injury/Stroke Program at Encompass Health Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital, where she also serves on the Medical Executive Committee. She serves on numerous American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) committees, including the Disorders of Consciousness Working Group, the Physicians and Clinicians Working Group, and the Brain Injury Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group. She is a revered clinician and teacher, and a rising star in the field of Brain Injury Medicine.

Dr. Katz is Professor of Neurology at BU School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University in psychology (magna cum laude), followed by his MD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His internship (Internal Medicine) was at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center of Boston and his residency (Neurology) was at BU, followed by his fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at the Boston VA Medical Center and BU. Dr. Katz has received innumerable honors, including the Sheldon Berrol MD Clinical Service Award of the Brain Injury Association of America, the Kenneth Viste, Jr. MD Award and Memorial Lecture of the American Society of Neurorehabilitation, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Brain Injury Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group at ACRM, the MAB Community Services Al Gayzagian Lifetime Achievement Award, the Compassionate Care Award from the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts, and he was elected President of the ACRM, 2015 to 2017. He serves as the Medical Director of the Brain Injury Program at Encompass Health Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital, where he is also Vice President of the medical staff. He has published extensively in the field of neurorehabilitation, including important guidelines in the field, such as on Disorders of Consciousness. He is one of the editors of what is considered the authoritative textbook in the field, Brain Injury Medicine: Principles and Practice, soon coming out with its third edition. He serves on many medical advisory boards and study sections, and is seen as one of the true leaders in Brain Injury Medicine.

We greatly appreciate the efforts of Drs. Dwyer and Katz, as well as all of the contributing authors, for their wonderful work in this issue of Seminars on neurorehabilitation, a growing field which is making tremendous inroads to recovery and restoration of function in patients who have suffered brain and spinal cord injuries. I feel very fortunate to have such esteemed colleagues and friends to produce this important issue for us, sure to be a great resource for neurologists and rehabilitation specialists worldwide.
